Farm Days
One of the benefits of membership is invitation to our five farm events each season. These farm events rotate each year and include:
SPRING PLANTING WORK DAYS (May 19 & 20, 2012): Help plant spring crops in the fields and do other prep work to open our season.
HAYRIDE FIELD DAY (September 9, 2012): Includes a hayride tour of the farm, a corn boil (using corn you’ve picked from our fields), Touch-a-Tractor, a straw-bale fort for the kids, and a delicious potluck. Enjoy a bike ride on the bike path adjacent to our property.
CANNING TOMATOES WORKSHOP (August 5, 2012): Learn how to use a pressure canner, as we walk you step-by-step through the process of canning tomatoes! Pressure-canning can be intimidating the first time you try it. This hands-on workshop allows you to practice alongside seasoned veterans, so you can walk away feeling confident in how to do it yourself next time. You even get to take home a jar of canned tomatoes as your reward. Small fee to cover cost of jars. Class size limited to 7.
HOME PRESERVING 101: PEACHES (August 6, 2012): Learn how to can peaches using the water-bath method. This hands-on workshop allows you to practice alongside seasoned veterans, so you can walk away feeling confident in how to do it yourself next time. You’ll learn which peaches are best, how to quickly get the peels off, pack and process them in jars. You even get to take home a jar of canned peaches as your reward. Small fee to cover cost of jars. Class size limited to 7.
JAMMING WITH BERRIES (June, 2012): Learn how to make the best strawberry freezer jam ever! We’ll walk you through the process step by step. Then we’ll make another batch using the water-bath method and a little extra zing for a new flavor! You walk away with a sample to take home! There is a small fee to cover the cost of berries and jars. Class size limited to 7.
SALSA FIESTA (August 19, 2012): Bring your own food processor and recipe to make your favorite salsa at our farm — with fresh picked vegetables from our fields. You’ll pick your own tomatoes, onions, and peppers, and prep your ingredients, make a batch of salsa, and then share some of the bounty for lunch. We’ll provide the tacos and, and we’ll all enjoy a salsa potluck meal!
PESTO FEST (Offered 2013): Bring your own food processor and ingredients to make pesto at our farm — with basil picked from our fields. You’ll pick your own basil, and prep your ingredients, make a batch of pesto, and then share some of the bounty for lunch. We’ll provide a big pot of noodles, and we’ll enjoy a pesto potluck meal under the beautiful catalpa tree!
BONFIRE AND PUMPKIN HUNT (October 13, 2012): A night of stargazing and s’mores around a bonfire; includes cider donuts, hot chocolate, and a flashlight pumpkin hunt for kids that you won’t want to miss. Each child can pick out a pumpkin to take home.
DADDY-DAUGHTER CAMP-OUT (not offered 2011): A fun night for dads and daughters at our farm. Bring your tent and camp out under the stars. Enjoy a delicious meal, provided by our farm cooked over the fire. Go on a treasure hunt down our bike path, looking for clues hidden down the trail. Make banana boats in the fire! A great memory for all dads and daughters.
